Data anonymisation

Note: This topic describes functionality new to version 5.4. To use this functionality, you must therefore be using askiadesign and askiafield versions 5.4 or later.

It is possible to hide sensitive survey information in AskiaField Supervisor; this is known as anonymising the data. Anonymised data is hidden from supervisors in the Supervisor module, and cannot be exported by them. Data can be anonymised on a question by question basis (in other words, you choose which questions are anonymised).

Note: For more information on data anonymisation, see the ESOMAR Data Protection Checklist.
Note: Quota appointments are disabled when data is anonymised.

Anonymising the data for a question

To anonymise the data for a question, you must open the questionnaire in AskiaDesign, and switch on the option anonymise the data in the question properties. Once this option is enabled, the data for that question is anonymised.

The effects of anonymisation

By default, any anonymised data (i.e. the data for questions with anonymise the data enabled) is hidden in Supervisor. When a supervisor uses the modify interview feature, he or she will see the following:

In addition, when a supervisor exports interviews to a qes file, only anonymised interviews are exported (no values are stored in the anonymised questions).

You can over-ride this, and allow supervisors to see anonymised data by enabling the view anonymized data restriction. This can be found in the tasks sub-tab of the management tab in the restriction properties:
