The grid view provides a global display of the interviews in the project. It allows you to quickly assign a particular code to any number and any selection of the open answers. It is reached by clicking grid view in the coding view menu.

Clicking a column header sorts the grid by the values in that column.
By clicking the following icon:
![]()
you can open the code frame window, which displays the code frame for the selected answers.
You can view a list of answers assigned with specific codes by opening the filters view (click the arrow beside filters).
This window displays the code frame for the answers that are selected in the grid view, and apply these codes to the responses in the main grid. The window appears when you click the following button in grid view:
![]()
The code frame window appears as follows:

To apply a code from the code frame window, simply select an open answer (or more than one, in conjunction with the ctrl and shift keys), and choose appropriate responses in the code frame window.
In the code frame window, responses are shown as selected according to which open answers are selected in the main grid:
If a response has not been coded to any of the selected open answers, the response will not be selected.
If a response has been applied to all of the selected open answers, it will be shown as selected.
If a response has been applied to some of the selected open answers, its check-box will be shown as a small grey square. Clicking a response with partial selection will cause that response to be de-selected from all selected open answers.
The coded answers column shows the entry codes of the selected responses, and is updated as they change. If you hold the mouse pointer over the values in this column, a tooltip appears, showing the captions of these values:

You can expand the filters view by clicking the arrow beside filters. It allows you to view a list of answers assigned with specific codes.

Simply select one or more items from the list (the selected items are highlighted in blue). The system displays all answers which have been coded with the selected items. To clear the selection, simply click again on the items in blue.
If the list of codes is long, you can quickly search it for specific answer text. To do so, type the text in open answer text. The system displays a list of all answers which contain this word. You can begin a new search simply by deleting the word previously entered.
